Cross-Weave Hammocks - Information
Machine Loomed Hammocks From Brazil and Colombia

Cross-weave hammocks are made with loom-fashioned fabrics characterized by warp and woof construction.  They can be hand-loomed or machined-loomed and are rigid in both width and length dimensions.  The quality of the fabrics is, of course, determined by the quality of the yarns used to produce the cloth. This could be cotton, hemp, nylon, polyester, polycotton, silk of various blends. Inclusive Listing of Hammocks

Many of these are decorated with coverlet borders which could be crocheted or macramé designs.  The machine loom process is easy to control and there are unlimited design possibilities. These are not labor intensive and therefore the costs are usually less than the hand-labor intensive sprang woven hammocks. 20 Ways to Use Your Hammock

A minor drawback to cross-weave hammocks is the absence of cross-ways stretch.  This absence of stretch means that hot-spots develop over time and comfort is less and sleepers turn more in their sleep.  This also leaves a high wall of material on the end sides when occupied.  As with all hammocks, these are most comfortable without spreader bars and when hung high.
